Maintenance, Grounds and Facilities

The maintenance, grounds and facilities team are responsible for making sure that the property, gardens and facilities are fully maintained and that any problems or repairs are taken care of quickly and efficiently.

Job roles within the maintenance, grounds and facilities team include head gardeners and gardeners, general handyman and spa & facilities staff. Depending on the job role, different requirements will be needed, but many of the role will involve having some experience in the job.

Requirements

Head gardeners are responsible for managing the gardens and ensuring that all tasks are completed to a high standard. They are responsible for a team of gardeners so will have to have good communication and planning skills, be able to manage budgets and control every aspect of the garden including the health and safety of the gardeners and guests.

Although there is no need for higher education certificates to become a gardener, you must be able to carry out skilled gardening and maintenance work in all aspects of the garden. Tasks can include planting and growing trees, plants and seeds, performing maintenance tasks such as cutting grass, weed control and emptying bins and be confident with hand tools and light machinery.

A general handyman performs a variety of maintenance duties in and around the property from fixing plumbing issues to painting and everything in between. Applicants must have the technical knowledge and know-how to tackle a wide range of tasks, be good with their hands and be in good physical shape.

Facilities workers help to oversee the day-to-day running of the building, including liaising with cleaning and gardening staff to ensure that the property is maintained to the highest standard. Experience is often desired but is not usually required as there will be on the job training.
